Welcome to Johnshaven – a traditional fishing village tucked into the rugged coastline of Aberdeenshire.

The scenic village is located along the A92 (Aberdeen – Dundee) coastal road just 14 miles south of Stonehaven and 7 miles north of Montrose.

Known for its rich cultural and maritime heritage, Johnshaven is home to an annual Fish Festival held every August celebrating its historically significant fishing port. Learn more with a visit to the heritage museum, enjoy the area’s natural beauty with a spot of birdwatching and fill up on great food at The Anchor Hotel. We highly recommend a pleasant walk along the coastal path after your visit to Waters Edge before cosying up with a nice cuppa at the Hidden Treasures Cafe – and don’t forget to pick up your dinner from The Lobster Shop!

The Lobster Shop is a family-run business specialising in fresh seafood, primarily sourced from local fishermen for over 75 years 

Offering ready-to-eat catch delivered daily straight from the local creel boats.

Tasty food, live music and accommodation, The Anchor Hotel and Pub is just a stone’s throw away from the harbour.

A small hotel with an excellent reputation for it’s seafood!

Heritage Museum

Located in the historic Old Lifeboat House (est. 1891), the Johnshaven Heritage Hub musuem is a volunteer-run, wheelchair-accessible museum focusing on local, maritime, and fishing history from the 17th century onwards.

Community Beach Cleans

SHARK is an environmental group based in Johnshaven with volunteers aiming to promote and protect the local wildlife and habitats. They aim to encourage a more sustainable lifestyle for the village residents and carry out / promote activities which reduce Johnshaven’s contribution to global warming including a community compost site with fortnightly garden waste collections.

Take part in the group’s village litter picks and beach cleans to give back to the area – these are organised throughout the year.

Golden Beaches

Set against cliffs & sand dunes, the beautiful beaches of Montrose, St. Cyrus National Nature Reserve and Lunan Bay offer miles of stunning sandy beaches – the latter with caves and rockpools, enjoy a brisk walk to blow the cobwebs away.

Coastal Path

Explore the coastal path – south to Montrose or north to Inverbervie – with pebble beaches, sea glass treasures and rock pools, there’s lots for you to discover!
